AdBrite vs AdSense

If you’re a website owner, you might be wondering how to make the biggest buck for your bang online. Selling text ads is a proven technique of making money from a site. Two of the most popular ad-serving services are AdBrite and Google’s AdSense.

I still get quite a bit of traffic to the Gmail spooler, so I decided to split test the two ad services. Each was randomly displayed with the a 50% chance of showing up. I reformatted both services to look similar. Here are my results (click for un-squished version):

First, you’ll notice that Google’s AdSense got less traffic overall. My guess is that is because more people have blocked the AdSense script. Despite this, Google took in more clicks overall. I assume this is because people trust the “Ads by Google” text and the ads were more relevant.

The real surprise comes with the earnings. I had AdBrite ads running on the page during the height of the spooler’s popularity, and all I can do is wonder if that earnings differential would have held up under much greater traffic.

BTW, what do you think about placing AdBrite together with AdSense at one page? Is this allowed by Google’s AdSense rules? Won’t Google ban you for using competitor’s ads together with AdSense?

    This is really interesting…

AntiB, from what I read in the web, a lot of people were warned by google not to display AdBrite ads on the same pages as their AdSense ads.

AntiB, you can now run AdSense and other ads in the same page as long as the ad’s appearance do not cause confusion to the site visitors. (according to AdSense January updated policy - https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=48182&topic=8423)

While AdBrite may bring you lots of “traffic” do not expect conversions or any ROI. Their manner of listings is borderline fraudulent… We ran a campaign for discount scuba gear. Yes, they will show you a huge very detailed report tracking each any every site you paid for but you’ll find no customer revenue or site sales from any of them. Lack of customer support and service only compound the issues. If you are looking to actually generate revenue for your business (as opposed to just paying lots of money for NOTHING) save your money and avoid AdBrite.

hey .. intresting article and very useful information . I have recently started blogging and I am searching for adsense alternative . What wiil you suggest? Have you tried any other alternative?

  14. Richard Ward Says:

Google is a name people trust and those people will stick to Adsense no matter what comes along because they aren’t as fraudulent as the competition. Pay-Per-Click advertising is a cutthroat market; don’t be fooled by companies that don’t fully back their services 110%.

I use both adbrite and adsense but the way I see it, adsense is paying me more. The comparison on my site is like 10 times the difference in earnings.

I earn more with adsense but I can’t say much with others. Maybe others might have earned more with adbrite?

  16. mespan Says:

I use both adbrite and adsense and see that adsense pays more. I’m going to experiment with bidvertiser. The Paypal payout is more convenient.

    Thanks for the info.
Is not a big difference between earnings.
Probably adbrite would perform better for some category of sites and not for others.

ever get banned from adsense for NO REASON!!! I have, and I’m still not sure what happened, I’m sure someone has abused my ads just to spite me, clicking like a wild man or women, so, what do you do when you get banned, use Adbrite!! LOL… PS, Adsense pays ok, depends on your content, I’m finding affiliated programs pay way better, and if you have a great site, selling banner space is even better profit over any of these 2~!…
