iPhoneSaber?

Due to the popularity of MacSaber and WiiSaber, I have received several requests to write iPhoneSaber. Now that the accelerometer has been unlocked, this has become a distinct possibilty.

There’s just one problem. I don’t have an iPhone.

To be honest, I just bought a house and my finance manager (wife) won’t allow the purchase. Therefore, I turn to you. I’m not one for begging, but I have been convinced this is for the greater good.

If you’re interested in a MacSaber port for the iPhone, please consider sending your spare change my way.

Thank you for your consideration.

    Hey, I had actually been working on exactly the same thing at the same time!

    I had found your program the other day and was messing around with it and, after seeing the iPhone accelerometer hack posted, began working on a program.

    My version I had originally posted at hackint0sh.org sometime on Sunday night.

    I do openly admit that the sounds I’m using I have taken from your MacSaber program and I should have asked you if I could use them beforehand, but I just got caught up in the excitement of having the phone actually play sounds as I swing it around.

    More or less what I had posted was my experimenting app which gives a live feed of the x,y, and z tilts while also playing the on and off sounds (sometimes) as you press the “Turn On” or “Turn Off” button.

    I began on my iSaber sometime on Saturday by tapping into the accelerometer, then learning a bit about Celestial for audio playing. I haven’t had much time to work on it over the past few days due to unusually large amounts of homework in the beginning of the school year, but I have in a notebook my rewritten code for acceleration / tilt handling.

    More or less I’d just love to be the one to develop this program for the iPhone.

    Awesome job, though, on the arrow moving as you move the phone about! I had been planning on doing that with a lightsaber graphic on a real release of my program but I don’t yet have the experience with graphics drawing on the iPhone.

    @Fred,

    Strangely enough, the news that the currently available “iSaber” app was written by me is incorrect. I’ve been working on the since I got word of the accelerometer breakthrough, but I haven’t had an iPhone to test it on until this morning. I just got home and started working out the kinks when I saw your post here and word on blogs everywhere about the other app.

    Guess after the other saber apps, this one was bound to be popular and quick to appear. =)

    Hmm, thanks for clearing that up. I’m sorry if I seemed really, well, pissed off in that post. The funny thing about me and programming for the iPhone is that I have started around 4 different projects and each time someone else had been working on exactly the same thing!

    On the other blogs the iSaber app is actually attributed directly to you, unless I’ve read what them incorrectly.

    On another note, would you mind if I used the sounds that you used in MacSaber for the program I’m working on? I should have come to you beforehand and asked if I could use them, but that is my fault. I had found another set of sounds through googling but their quality was not nearly as good as the ones included in MacSaber.

    Finally, awesome job on MacSaber! I’ve had loads of fun swinging my laptop around and nearly breaking it over the past few days. Very, very nice!

    @Fred,

    Looks like you’re on the verge of something good right now. Much closer than I am, anyway. I’ve sent you the MacSaber source which includes the sound kit and a whole bunch of force logic to give some really satisfying sound effects.

    Feel free to run with it and I’ll get back to finishing the drywall in my TV room. =)
